First Year - LifeAtSIBMB

With the ending note struck upon the first year of living at SIBM Bengaluru, I find myself looking back upon all those moments which has made LifeAtSIBMB a unique experience. The first year had begun in a frenzy, kickstarted by 2 days of Outbound Learning which built easy camaraderie and bonding among the students of batch 2018-20. Having experienced two days of a recluse, we returned to the campus to begin our induction into the corporate world where high-level executives from various prestigious companies gave us helpful insights. After that, college life began in truth.

As a student of SIBM Bengaluru, there is barely any respite from the demanding academics. Each semester of the first year encompasses around 12 subjects, giving an all-round experience for the students with a focus on each specialisation- Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Operations. Assignments and projects are a staple of daily life, as the Professors seek to encourage real-world applicability of concepts taught in class. Analytics is given a major focus, encouraging data-visualization and mining. R, Tableau, SPSS etc. are all part of the curriculum of the first year, and are subsequently expected to be used in any projects or assignments.

But the true excitement of the First year comes from participation in the many events taking place on the campus. SIBM B plays host to numerous events each year, every month is a celebration of a different kind. From organizing fests for international students to engaging TEDx to creating a fantasy land for unprivileged children, the college life encourages new experiences at every turn. The flagship event of the college, Revelation had a multitude of management events which provided a great opportunity to hone skills in the respective fields. The crown of the first year at the college was the celebration after each event, as the students come together to rejoice in the spectacle.

While the learnings and events play a major role, the moments that actually form the crux of LifeAtSIBMB are the late nights spent in the Reading Room before a test, the raucous uproar in the common room during IPL, the frequent visits to indoor sports arena interspersed with bouts of coffee from the Cafeteria. It has been a fulfilling year for us, and we look forward to experiencing another great year.
