Over 400 Run For A Cause At SIBM Bengaluru’s Life Dart 2017
The
3rd edition of Life Dart 5K Run was conducted successfully by
the Rotaract Club of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM)
Bengaluru in association with Rotary Indiranagar (District 3190) in
Electronic City on Sunday, the 29th of January, 2017.
The Social Responsibility Committee of SIBM Bengaluru has
organised a number of marathons in the past, each time for a noble objective.
This year, the cause was for the education and the upliftment of some of
India’s poorest children and the college partnered with Magic Bus, an NGO
which will receive the proceeds of this marathon.
Every two tickets will contribute to a child’s education for a
month, the price of each ticket being Rs.250. The Rotaract Club of SIBM-B
anticipates to raise close to Rs.2,00,000 from the ticket sales and from the
generous contribution that they usually get from Rotary Indiranagar.
The event commenced at 7 in the morning with a warm-up in form
of Zumba and Aerobics. The fundraiser witnessed a participation of over 400
runners from all over the city and the atmosphere was palpable with excitement
as they were brimming with energy.
Runners
poured in from various organisations including Microsoft, Cognizant, Tech
Mahindra, CGI, Infosys, Wipro, and other organisations around Electronic City.
Students from several colleges including XIME, Welingkar Institute of
Management, Christ University etc. took part in this fundraiser.
India’s First Woman Blade Runner – Kiran Kanojia, the Chief
Guest, graced the event with her presence. She addressed the gathering, “Some
call it fate and some call it destiny. But, it is all you and the choices you
make.” Upon being asked about the event, she quoted, “I saw a lot of energy in
students and it pleases me to see that they are setting an example for the
future generation. Work will always be there, but that should not stop you from
achieving your dreams. Let no one doubt your capabilities.”
Dekshith Devaiah, who completed the race in a mere 16 minutes,
won the race. The first runner-up was Mohit Saini and the second runner-up was
Rahul P. All the winners were awarded total prizes worth Rs.15,000.
In an attempt to keep the tradition alive, every year the
Fastest Woman Runner is felicitated and this year the title was conferred to an
energetic 13-year young participant, Kaveri V. Coincidentally, she also
happened to be the youngest of all the runners and zestfully said that there
was no secret to her success.
Supriya Kandhari, Director of Youth Services, Rotary Club
Indiranagar said, “It is an excellent initiative. It is good to see people
running for a cause and not just for fitness.”
